It would be a FRIDAY NIGHT at METROLINA
BILLY SCOTT`S BACK FROM the BEACH & VACATION..
With his Cowboy hat on ................& wife Barbara...
...NOT thinking about STICK ELLIOTT..and
TALKING WITH DALE EARNHARDT on
W H Y he took the weekend off from racing..
"What`s wrong ol man ??"
"I`ve won 3 in a row and FAT MAN GORDON is gonna make me start in
the rear so......and I`m getting my deal money anyway ...."
'ROE DAVIS' has some "special tars" he wants to try out...'for one night only'
So, I`ll be back next week...besides, I may have to watch this one up on top with the fans."
"I`m going to try to stop by in UNION on my way hunting this fall,
after a quick stop at NICHOLS STORE at Rock Hill....hey, did ROCK GAULT really pay your
guys to park your car on pit road at GAFFNEY that Saturday night the engine wasn`t ready ?"
asked the skinny frontend man from Kannapolis.
"You know how people talk, DALE." was the reply.
JAMES DUNLAP has DOUGMAN DAVIS filling in for Billy in the RED #
50...'for one night only' on Red`s 'special tars'...
Dougman brings BOBBY BURNETTE with him....ceeegar & all.....
just to keep an eye on the chassis and track.....'for one night only'
he Knows DUNLAP has the HP !
Up at the BLUE & YELLOW #57 pit ....
OL NIXON is keeping a sharp eye on his crew....
Wondering if STICK is gonna get there on time....
Seems there was a PARTY somewhere last night...and today...well..the ahort car owner with the pipe is
thinking about eating a whole bad of peanuts around the car to shake up the big man from Shelby
just to get back at him. It wouldn`t be the first time he did when STICK was late.
"That black Grand Prix better get on in this infield".
TOMMY VANDIVER is all wide -eyed and excited.."the old man is getting hot! Stick is
gonna have to do what it takes tonight !"
EDDIE JONES is cool, calm and collected..checking out the ladies

DOUGMAN is ALL SMILES...but has that rabbit`s foot in his pocket

wondering what that BALLHEADED little fellow at the 08 was doing wearing a
BIG ORANGE FOAM Cowboy hat ...and WHO does HE think HE is ?
If ya asked him, he`d say BUDDY SMITH...who wants to know ??
DUVALL grunts & then smiles at some kids walking by.....
as he tuned on his carb he picked up in LATTIMORE NC earler in the
week from EARL PARKER, the Champion Spark Plug Rep for NASCAR..
At that 08, BUDDY SMITH is growling at TIM GORDON , pitted next to
him........Gordon just smiles ....and chews on his lollipop....nervously....
with his eyes on the COOPERS.....cause Tim rubbed ol BOB too much last
week...and Bob has him a 'WADDELL WILSON SPECIAL' under his hood...."for one night only'
BOBBY COOPER is walking pit road....looking at RR tires....
BILLY COOPER is getting the tools organised.
LARRY 'TUBBY' WILLIAMS is chilled out in his lawn chair.
BRYANT WALLACE is rubbing down the RED # 300..
his hair whiter than the numbers on the car !!
And up near turn 4.....
JIVE SIMPSON adjusts his poca-dotted railroad cap and talks with
CARL SMART....who`s probably thinking about FISHING....
and wondering just WHO is MARSHALL PERRY and what is this talk about a
DODGE & HARRY HYDE wanting to talk ?
And why was PETE HAMILTON testing a Challenger at CONCORD last
week ?

fresh engine and ROBERT GEE has that 17 looking good as usual this week !"
LARRY WALLACE & DUB SIMPSON are at the concession stand.....
Both have NEW CARS coming next week.....
RANDY HOUSER & DAVID CHOBAT are taking photos of all of them ....
and selling that RACING NEWS in the crowd of onlookers at the
Sling those papers, fellas, ERNIE ELKINS has a baby boy on the way
& you know he`s gonna drive a race car ...
At the White/Blue/Red # 00 of 'FAST FREDDY' & GRASSY SMITH
'holds court' with some young & 'mature' drivers & mechanics, talking horsepower
Freddy is talking to fans at the back of the truck.
He has one eye on son JEFF....
who seems to keep trying to MAKE STUFF with the tools....
Over along the backstretch fence, the modified sixes are getting ready
NED & SHERRILL HANEY, DON DIABLO, KENNY POLSTON.......
It`s ON tonight....
And on the PA......
HAL HAMRICK finishes up the POLE SHOW from a NASCAR track
on WFMX105.7 FM
BILL CONNELL switches off the radio & starts talking about some
track OTHER than where he is ACTUALLY at ..
But it`s okay cause it` sounds so exciting...
THEN......
"Ladies & Gentleman, it`s showtime !
Late Models Late Models, Late Model WARRIORS to your cars....."
"HENRY FURR has this track RITE .........TOO NIGHT !! "
And in the stands, the fans are ready, some have their best girls with them ,
all tanned, tall and looking like summer..
some have their 'best bet' for the night on their mind...
(do I take this one home EARLY ??)
The wind blows, you can SMELL the POPCORN and the ONIONS...
TERRY BROTHERTON is walking by, hot dog in one hand and that little
clicker in the other, counting those fans.
The water truck continues to circle round & round...
and suddenly over past the back gate..................in a cloud of dust...
In a big cloud of dust out back off of th ehighway comes
SPEEDY THOMPSON, and behind him.....
RALPH EARNHARDT...in that # 8.....is it the asphalt car or the dirt car, oh
well, it doesn`t matter much anyway , he`s won here with BOTH !
Then......first one engine fires ....& then another and another .......
Bill Connell gets louder & louder......the fans fidget .....'gonna be a good un '

Hi Duane , been waiting for you to join RR cause we sure do like to read your remarks about racing. It dosen;t matter if it's about a track, a driver, the rules, the fans, or anything concerning racing, you always have an answer and if you don't , you'll get one. You always have a humerous remark to throw in to liven up the forum.
We know how busy you are but hope you will find time to stay in touch with all the RR members. Looking forward to watching your page to see what you've got to get your contact started. Took me a while to find it, so you may want to get it on

Thanks, I had to go to my XP laptop to get here. I`m in the Stock Car Reunion portion also.
I hope everybody knows that there was no exact time line to that story, but wouldn`t it make a great night ?
That track used to look great allpainted up with that sun ging down on Friday afternooon.
I`l poke around here a bit more & do some things.
I`m sure Barbara could relay some Billy Scott tales on her.
